Crystal Palace managed to secure a point against Southampton at St Mary’s last night, with a late Wilfried Zaha red card ending things on a sour note for Roy Hodgson.
The Eagles still find themselves at risk of slipping into the relegation places at this moment in time, so they’ll be desperate to strengthen before the transfer window shuts. Interestingly, it appears as if the London club are eyeing a possible late swoop, as according to TeamTalk, Crystal Palace are interested in signing Britt Assombalonga.
It’s believed that Aston Villa have looked at a possible deal for the Congo international, while Bristol City are trying to pull off an audacious bid, with Crystal Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion keeping tabs.
Indeed, the forward has managed to find the back of the net nine times in the Championship this season, but Jordan Hugill has been preferred to Assombalonga in recent months by Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis, which has opened the door for a potential exit.
THE VERDICT:
Britt Assombalonga, who is valued at £10.8 million (by Transfermarkt), has looked impressive at times in the current campaign, but he hasn’t exactly done enough to suggest that he deserves a move to the Premier League.
Although, with Connor Wickham struggling for support at this moment in time, perhaps a move for the Middlesbrough man would provide solid cover, as Christian Benteke has been rather disappointing recently.
