Quoted by The Daily Star, Crystal Palace and Belgium striker Christian Benteke has said that he is looking forward to facing former club Liverpool this weekend, with our resident Eagles fans in the Transfer Tavern hoping he bags the winner.
Indeed, many of our local Reds punters are worried that the man they signed from Aston Villa could come back to haunt them with a point to prove after he was quickly shown the door under Jurgen Klopp.
The Belgian international was signed by Brendan Rodgers at the start of last season but quickly found himself struggling to hold down a place in the side before Klopp came in.
For Benteke, though, the German’s arrival did not mean extra game-time and he duly went south this summer to sign for the London club.
He is off the mark for the Eagles this season and, ahead of the game against some familiar faces, is seemingly in a good mood.
“I am looking forward to every game, not just against Liverpool. Of course, I am going to be happy because I will play against my old team-mates, but I am focused on every game”, he said.
With the Merseyside titans struggling to defend aerial threats these days, it would just sod’s law to see the man they sold come back to haunt them.
