Many Crystal Palace fans are reacting to the latest news surrounding the future of Max Meyer, who looks like he will not be at the club for much longer.
The news from Kicker, which @cpfc_xtra tweeted out to the Palace fans, suggests it is hard to see Meyer signing a new deal at Palace – his situation looks set to get a lot more difficult than it already is. Playing for the U23s was a ‘new low’ for the midfielder in an already struggling season with the Eagles.
The attacking midfielder has found it difficult ever since making the move to South London. In his 56 appearances, he has only picked up two goals and three assists (Transfermarkt).
Meyer made his international debut for Germany before he turned 20 and this had plenty of supporters thinking he had bags of potential when he arrived. However a mix of average performances and not being selected by Roy Hodgson has seen him now not even get a place in the match day squad. This saw one fan call him a ‘wasted talent’.
With his contract expiring in the summer, it benefits all parties if he were to not sign an extension and move on as he will want to be playing football and the club can stop paying the wages of someone who looks surplus to requirements.
Here is how Palace fans reacted to this update on Meyer:
Hodgson has blood on his hands

Wasted talent at selhurst, similar to Barry Bannon. Too small to play in a physical team, easily bullied off the ball

Get him off the wage bill in January. Real shame it’s not worked out for him at Palace
