Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has spoken to the media about the worrying contract situation at Selhurst Park.
Hodgson discusses player contracts
He said: “I probably would lie if I said it wasn’t a concern. Doug and the chairman are working hard to find the solutions. I have to trust that and work with the players”
Hodgson is right to be worried
The South London side have over ten players who are out of contract in the summer (Transfermarkt). These are not just fringe players either, with key players like Vicente Guaita, Patrick van Aanholt, Jeffrey Schlupp, Christian Benteke and Andros Townsend available to leave on a free transfer in the summer as things stand.
Some of the players, like Mamadou Sakho, may be good to get off the wage bill, as the injury prone defender struggles for game time consistently (Transfermarkt). So the club and in particular Chairman Steve Parish have to be very clever about whose contracts they extend.
However, this is a big ‘concern’ for Hodgson, and it is quite frankly crazy to have such a massive portion of the squad on expiring deals.
