Crystal Palace correspondent Matt Woosnam has been reacting to the club’s late move for  young forward Luke Plange from Derby County.

The Lowdown: Plange deal

The 19-year-old made the move to the south London club from the Rams in the final hours of deadline day, penning a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Eagles. However, Palace confirmed within their announcement that Plange would be heading straight back out of Selhurst Park to Derby on loan until the end of the season.

The teenager, who has scored three Championship goals for Wayne Rooney’s side this season, has reportedly cost the Eagles up to £1m.

The Latest: Woosnam reacts

Reliable reporter Woosnam was giving his thoughts on the move for Plange via Twitter, where he shared a corresponding article from The Athletic about Palace's signing of - and temporary loan departure for - the teenager..

The journalist tweeted: "Signing Luke Plange from Derby is more evidence of #CPFC's policy to recruit the Championship's best young talent A good athlete with a strong physique who can finish well, a loan back suits all parties as he continues to develop."

The Verdict: Correct call

Plange only made his senior debut back in December, so it was unlikely that he would get into Patrick Vieira’s side for the second half of the season ahead of senior options Odsonne Edouard, Jordan Ayew, Christian Benteke and Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Therefore, allowing him to return to Derby to gain more senior football makes perfect sense ahead of a possible breakthrough at Selhurst Park next season.

Hopefully Plange will add to his three Championship goals between now and the end of the season, and doing so could help Derby complete a great escape from what had previously seemed a certain relegation to League One.
