According to The Daily Star, Crystal Palace and Celtic are going to battle it out in the race to sign James McCarthy from Everton in the January transfer window.
The news has certainly been welcomed by our Eagles fans here in the Transfer Tavern who are looking for their club to start bringing in new recruits to help them get away from the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, our Celtic fans want them to sign the Irish international as he’ll help bring some extra quality as they look to make a bigger dent in the Champions League next season.
The central midfielder has found playing time hard to come by during this campaign under Ronald Koeman thanks to a combination of injury setbacks and the signing of Idrissa Gueye and now it appears he could be on the move.
He signed for the Toffees from Wigan in 2013 and started off playing fairly regularly under previous manager Roberto Martinez but with the arrival of the Dutchman Koeman he has been out in the cold more often than not.
Our landlord thinks he’d be a good signing for both sides and is looking forward to a good old transfer scrap.
