Many Crystal Palace fans are not happy following reports suggesting that the South London side are looking at Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso.
The Daily Mail are reporting, via @cpfc_xtra, that he could be seen as a potential replacement for left-back Patrick Van Aanholt, who is out of contract in the summer. The report also sees Marseille defender Jordan Amavi linked.
The Spaniard has had a great career with the Blues, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and the Europa League with the club (Transfermarkt). He has made 152 appearances, scoring 22 goals and picking up 18 assists. However, this season, he has only made three appearances in the division following Ben Chilwell’s arrival in the summer.
The form of Alonso hasn’t been great and this is emphasised by the fact that he only started 15 Premier League games last season, and also by the signing of Chilwell.
Taking these reasons into account, it is clear to see why many of the Eagles fan base are not best pleased with this link. He is only one year younger than Van Aanholt too, so it makes more sense to just extend the Dutchman’s contract than bring in Alonso.

Why go from 1 30 y/o to another need youth with experience. Best thing to do is keep pva have Mitchell shadow him for a while then slowly phase pva out

Alonso can’t defend so he won’t fit Roy’s system

Why would we waste wages on Alonso with Mitchell coming through?
Exactly the type of signing we need to avoid. https://t.co/dbm2W8ONb4
