Paul Konchesky has left Liverpool to join Championship side Nottingham Forest on loan. The move must surely come as a welcome one for the player’s mother, who recently expressed views on Liverpool fans that would see her sacked from a pundit’s job on Sky Sports. Or indeed from the packing room of a biscuit factory.
Naturally, Konchesky is not the most popular figure on Merseyside these days and for many was a hangover from the dark, dark days of Roy Hodgson. It is doubtful whether he will be missed.
Konchesky was supposed to be close to signing a deal with Mark Hughes’ Fulham, a move which would see him return to the caring embrace that London gives to all her returning sons. However, Forest manager Billy Davies seems to have pulled off a major coup in securing the services of the player for his promotion chasing team.
With his Premier League experience, Konchesky would be the perfect signing for a team who sit within the Play-Off spots. The move means that Konchesky will be available for Forest’s next match against Coventry on Tuesday.
It will be interesting to see if this move turns into something a bit more permanent. Liverpool fans will surely be delighted to see the back of the former England international, and whilst it’s not the Land of the Rising Sun, it’s a bit less North for the Dagenham born player and his mother.
