The deadline in this month’s transfer window is almost upon us and our local Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are so disappointed with the lack of signings so far.
Indeed, the Reds have not actually signed anyone up until now when many here by the bar – not just our Reds punters – thought they’d use it to bolster their title challenge.
Going into January many were of the opinion the Reds needed extra players with their squad looking thin and so that has proved with them having a below par January.
Losses to Swansea and Southampton in the Premier League and EFL Cup respectively highlighted the threadbare nature of the team and so our landlord reckons work has to be done over the coming days.
Indeed, he thinks some outgoings are going to happen, too, and so with that in mind here’s one in and two outs the Reds have to get over the line…
Out: Mamadou Sakho
Having Sakho around the club is not helping anyone – let alone the Reds’ title challenge.
Sakho is well out of favour with Jurgen Klopp at Anfield and seems destined to never play in front of an Anfield crowd for the home side again, so why are the Reds continuing with paying his wages? Our landlord is expecting a late bid for him from someone and reckons the Merseyside outfit should almost definitely accept it.
In: Geoffrey Kondogbia
The Reds’ midfield does have plenty of talent.
There’s passing, creativity, goals and pressing all in abundance with the likes of Adam Lallana, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum about but where is the brute force? Liverpool need a midfielder that is going to dominate physically not just with the ball and so they should sign Kondogbia. His days at Inter look numbered and so he’d surely jump at the chance to sign.
Out: Lucas Leiva
Speaking of days being numbered, surely Lucas’ are.
The Brazilian midfielder has had a fine time with the Reds over many years but it really does look like he needs to move to pastures new. He’s very rarely getting a game under Jurgen Klopp and when he does it is out of position so surely he’s thinking about his future. Our landlord reckons he needs to be and must push for a move away in the coming days.
