‘Definition of average’, ‘Fuming’ – Liverpool fans slate fellow Reds for wanting £18m-rated ace

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been pleased by their club’s activity in the transfer market so far this summer, but it seems the vast majority of supporters would be furious if their club decided to pursue the signature of Jack Wilshere.

Following a 17-year stint with the club Jack Wilshere confirmed he will depart Arsenal in search of first-team football this summer when his contract expires. The arrival of Unai Emery appears to have pushed him down the pecking order with the Gunners and, with that to consider, Wilshere (valued at £18 million by Transfermarkt) has decided to embark on a new challenge.

The 26-year-old midfielder’s decision will undoubtedly put a whole host of clubs on high alert whilst he contemplates his next move, and plenty of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to call for their club to join the race for his signature.

However, the vast majority of the Reds faithful were quick to criticise their fellow fans for even suggesting that Wilshere should be considered as a viable option. Their main concerns relate to his injury record and his lack of development at Arsenal following years of disappointing underachievement.

There is a suggestion that Wilshere could be a valuable squad player at Liverpool, although that notion is rather redundant considering the player in question is only leaving Arsenal in search of first-team football.

With that in mind, it seems extremely unlikely that Liverpool will sign Wilshere this summer following the arrival of both Naby Keita and Fabinho, so the supporters can stop slating each other over the England international for now.

Here’s how the Liverpool fans reacted to Wilshere’s admission on Twitter…
