Derby County Record Transfers

The Rams have only recently started spending big, and their record transfer arrival fee came from Matej Vydra back in 2016-17. The 24-year-old Czech Republic international arrived from Premier League side Watford for a fee of almost £8.5m. The centre-forward was very impressive during his time at Derby, scoring 26 goals in 73 games.

This record attracted the likes of many Premier League clubs, including Burnley who decided to purchase the in-demand man for almost £11m, ahead of the 2018-19 season, two years after his arrival. Vydra is also the clubs highest ever transfer departure with this large fee. The Rams most recent signing, Krystian Bielik, is their second-highest transfer arrival of all time.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder was signed from North London giants, Arsenal, ahead of this current 2019-20 season. The young Polish international never managed to play a game for Arsenal since his arrival from Legia Warsaw; however, he had a taste for the Championship with loan spells at Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic where he caught the eye of the Rams.

In the summer of 2015-16, duo, Bradley Johnson and Tom Ince, arrived at the club for big money. Johnson was signed from Premier League side Norwich for around £7.3m, and Ince arrived from Championship side, Hull City for just over £6m.

At the time, these two players were the club’s record signings, and Tom Ince in particular caught the eye of a newly promoted Huddersfield Town after ending the 2016-17 season as the clubs top goal-scorer with 15 goals. Derby County cashed out on Tom Ince for over £8m, making £2m profit after three years. This is the club’s third-highest transfer departure fee.

Two more notable Derby sales are central midfielders; Jeff Hendrick and Seth Johnson, who both were sold for over £10m. Hendrick left the Rams to join Burnley in 2016-17, and Johnson made his move to Leeds back in 2001-02. Will Hughes famously made his move from boyhood club Derby County in 2017. The former academy graduate caught the eye of Premier League side Watford and left the club for over £8m.

Famous Derby County Transfers

The most famous Derby County transfer has to be Wayne Rooney. Rooney arrived on an undisclosed transfer from MLS side, D.C. United in the summer of 2019-20.

The former England and Manchester United legend took up the role as player-coach for the Rams, and he was instantly named as the new captain of the team. You do not want to miss out on more of the latest Derby County transfer rumours here!
