Diego Costa’s absence will be the making of this Chelsea man this season

Chelsea have hit their stride now in the Premier League, winning their last three Premier League fixtures to find themselves in and among the top four at this early stage of the campaign.

The Blues were on the receiving end of a miserable first game of the season when a rampant Burnley ran out surprising winners at Stamford Bridge on the opening day. However, Antonio Conte has managed to turn things around quickly, with a 6-0 smashing of Qarabag in the Champions League this week an exclamation point on a successful few weeks.

Conte has made sure that he is the one that calls the shots at the Bridge while in charge, and part of him doing this has included him isolating controversial striker Diego Costa from the squad following the Spaniards outlandish comments last term.

Our landlord here in the Tavern though thinks it could be a blessing in disguise for the Blues, and despite adding Alvaro Morata to the squad over the summer as a direct replacement, one other player who could benefit from Costa’s absence is Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi.

The 23-year-old found chances hard to come by last season behind Costa, but this year seems to have more about him, with Conte affording him more chances thus far.

Indeed, Batshuayi started and scored in the midweek mauling of Qarabag, and it will be a huge confidence boost to the young striker. If he can continue to get game time and keep on bagging goals, then there is every reason that Costa’s misfortune will be Batshuayi’s gain in the long term.
