Emotions have been dumped from a great height on the red and white side of North London towards the back end of the season, yet again piling the pressure on Wenger to change his approach or walk.
The middle of February saw Arsenal beat Barcelona at the Emirates; they were going strong in the league and had a Cup final to look forward to at the end of the month. Belief was finally restored that the club looked certain to add some silverware to the abandoned cabinet that has been deprived since 2005.
Then it all went wrong.
The famous Arsenal bottled it in the Carling cup final which saw a horrendous clanger dropped in the final minute hand Birmingham the cup, and each confident grin was whipped off the face of every gooner, including myself as the season crashed around us. Suddenly four trophies became fighting for third spot as 11 points have been taken out of a possible 24, failing to see off the likes of Sunderland and Blackburn.
I still believe to even consider the possibility to axe the Arsenal manager is out of the question. The Frenchmen took charge in 1996 and has treated the Arsenal faithful to three premiership titles, four F.A cups and consistent champions’ league football since 1998.
If he were to departed tomorrow morning he would be snapped up by noon and who would replace him?
I understand the frustration once again ending trophy-less and I have my moments where I feel like screaming and wish he would cough up in the transfer market and stop acting like the funds are coming straight from his wallet.
Despite that, Wenger has pulled off miracles during his 15 year reign with his eye for a bargain, with the likes of Thierry Henry, Patrick Viera, and Cesc Fabragas. Not to forget Frannie Jeffers… (Ok, but we can let him off for that one) and there is no saying he can’t do it again.
Wenger has helped spearhead the premiership to be one of the best (the best in my opinion) leagues in the world with the players he has brought in, not to mention being responsible for the Invinsibles of 2004.
The man is a football tactician and his presence has turned ‘Boring Boring Arsenal’ into one of the most exciting attacking teams on the planet.
