Our fax machine here in the Transfer Tavern has been on the blink for a while, which reminds us all of the infamous summer of 2015 when David de Gea came so, so close to leaving Manchester United for Real Madrid.
It was alleged at the time that the paperwork didn’t reach the necessary people in time to get the deal over the line and ever since then there have been whispers of the goalie upping sticks to relocate to the Bernabeu.
And those whispers have turned into shouts over the course of the past 24 hours, with the Independent having reported that the Red Devils may consider Real’s renewed interest if they allow midfielder Toni Kroos to head in the opposite direction as part of the deal.
Losing one of the best goalies in the world would undoubtedly be a blow, but it seems that Man United fans on Twitter are open to the idea of De Gea going if it means the German maestro will be strutting his stuff at Old Trafford…
