The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to news via Sky Sports that Marouane Fellaini’s representatives are expected at Old Trafford before the end of the week to try and wrap up a new deal for the Belgian. Fellaini scored a late winner against Arsenal last weekend, leading to comments from Jose Mourinho that he wants him to stay in Manchester.

Before Sunday, the United fans propping our bar up were convinced that Marouane Fellaini would be leaving Old Trafford in the summer. However, the big Belgian popped up at the right time to head home a 91st-minute winner in Arsene Wenger’s last ever visit to Old Trafford as the Arsenal manager. Following his late winner, Fellaini now seems to have done a U-turn as he hopes to extend his stay with England’s most successful club.
The 30-year-old midfielder has struggled for consistent game-time this season with both injuries and form hampering his chances. Fellaini has had to contend with Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay and Juan Mata for a starting role in Jose Mourinho’s favoured system that deploys three men in midfield. However, the blunt force style that Fellaini provides is a perfect plan b for United, as they proved on Sunday when they took all three points off of Arsenal.
