The Toffees are in the Transfer Tavern today and they can’t wait for the new season after a wildly successful transfer window.
Following on from Ramiro Funes Mori suffering a knee injury that could keep him out for up to nine months, Ronald Koeman is taking to the transfer market in search of a replacement.
One potential replacement who has been linked heavily with Everton in recent days is West Ham’s, Winston Reid.
Our landlord has nothing against the New Zealand captain, he is a good centre-back.
With the amount of money already having been spent by Koeman in this transfer window, however, you’d think that Everton could probably afford a bit better than ‘good’.
West Ham have already addressed the rumours saying they have no intentions of selling Reid so Koeman may be forced to look elsewhere.
On that note, here are two players Ronald Koeman could make a move for instead of Winston Reid.
Chris Smalling

Transfer rumours surrounding Chris Smalling’s possible departure from Manchester United have died down as of late.
The only media coverage the Man U centre-back is getting right now is down to the fact that he picked himself in his greatest ever United side.
Not too sure about that one, Chris.
However he is a top centre-back and despite strong interest from West Brom, should Koeman go for him our landlord thinks Smalling would prefer a move to Merseyside.
Marcano

A slightly older alternative to Chris Smalling but only one-year Winston Reid’s senior, Marcano would be an excellent addition to the Toffee’s back line.
Having played for Porto since 2014, the Spanish defender knows what it is like to play for a club with high expectations in the league so would fit into Koeman’s new philosophy at the club.
Our landlord thinks Smalling would be the better choice but Marcano would definitely cost less and have lower wages than the England international.
