It seems as if Liverpool are eager to renew their interest in Jan Vertonghen of Ajax, a target for the Merseyside club this summer. Whilst they could not broker a deal for the defender in the recent transfer window, they remain convinced they can bring in their man and agree a fee with Ajax.
With Daniel Agger suffering an injury during Liverpool’s loss at White Hart Lane on Sunday, and stalwart Jamie Carragher making a couple of high profile mistakes in his recent games, Kenny Dalglish wants to bolster his defensive options, and sees Vertonghen as the perfect man for the job.
If a deal for Vertonghen can be struck with the Dutch giants, then it may spell the end of Agger’s time at Anfield. The Danish centre-back has suffered frequently from injuries during his time at Liverpool and it seems as if Dalglish may have had enough of the injury prone defender.
With the Metro reporting that Dalglish is willing to place a concrete offer for the Belgian in the January transfer window, Italian side AC Milan have been alerted to the possibility of bringing in Agger, who would possibly be surplus to requirements at Anfield should the deal go ahead.
