Encouraging news for Everton fans despite testing few weeks

Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern have had little to cheer about in recent weeks, and defeat at home to Tottenham on Saturday has further compounded their misery.

Many Toffees supporters were drowning their sorrows after a 2-0 loss at Chelsea prior to the international break, and they continued to do so over the weekend after going down 3-0 to Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs, a result which leaves Ronald Koeman’s men 16th in the division.

Nonetheless, they have a chance to get back to winning ways in the Europa League on Thursday night, albeit face a tricky trip to Atalanta, and there may some encouraging news on the horizon for Evertonians if a recent report from Il Secolo XIX (via talkSPORT) is anything to go by.

And that’s because Everton have been linked with a move for NK Lokomotiva midfielder Lovro Majer, a 19-year-old starlet who has already made his senior debut for Croatia.

He came up through the ranks at the Zagreb-based outfit to make his professional debut for the club only last year in the Europa League, and the midfielder has since gone on to appear a further 34 times for the side, bagging eight goals and laying on 14 assists in the process.

And with four goals and three assists in just seven league games this term, Majer continues to go from strength to strength, and Koeman’s Everton are part of a Europe-wide chase for the 19-year-old, which reportedly includes the likes of Atletico Madrid, Sampdoria, and Watford.

And were he to continue his excellent form for Lokomotiva between now and January, the teenage sensation may well be subject to heavy interest come the New Year.

Landlord’s verdict: It has been a testing few weeks for Everton and their supporters, whose pre-season optimism after a summer of big spending has vanished after successive league defeats.

Yet there is vast amounts of quality in that Toffees squad, and they’ve been linked with another hugely talented individual in the form of Lovro Majer, who has already appeared for the Croatian senior side at the tender age of 19.

That itself underlines his present credentials and indeed his future potential, and were Koeman’s men to firm up their reported interest with a move in January, it would quite the statement of intent given the likes of Atletico Madrid and Sampdoria are also thought to be keen on the young midfielder.
