Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been left debating what the best course of action is for one member of their squad, after a club confirmed interest in signing him.
During an interview with Sky Italia, Roma manager Luciano Spalletti has confirmed that his side want to sign Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny after a successful loan stint in Rome for the Arsenal man last season.
“We’re trying to keep hold of Wojciech Szczesny, even if there isn’t a goalkeeping problem, considering we’ve signed Alisson. Morgan De Sanctis will probably continue to be part of our squad.”
Arsenal have a decision to be made this summer as one of Szczesny or David Ospina is likely to leave the Emirates, as the Gunners are unlikely to see either of their alternative goalkeepers oust Petr Cech from his position as number one.
Szczesny was previously regarded as the prospect for long-term number one at the Emirates but a string of poor performances and off-field incidents have led the Gunners to rethink their strategy, with our landlord claiming the Pole will never be a reliable enough stopper for Arsenal.
