Everton and Leicester set to lock horns in three club battle to sign Italian defender

The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are discussing which defender they should bring in this summer.

After news broke that Everton would add a centre half in the summer transfer window, there have been whispers of Virgil Van Dijk, Michael Keane and many others heard from the Everton fans’ booth here in the Transfer Tavern.

Today, however, there has been a new name thrown into the mix and it is intriguing everyone.

Francesco Acerbi is a target for Everton and two other Premier League clubs, according to Tutto Mercato Web reported via The Hertfordshire Mercury.

Acerbi is also being chased by Watford and Leicester City.

The 29-year-old is a towering centre back with aerial prowess.

During his career, he has represented numerous teams such as Pavia, Reggina, Genoa, AC Milan and Chievo but has never left Italy.

The twice-capped Italy international has been at Sassuolo since 2013, amassing over 100 appearances during that time.

Sassuolo are reportedly holding out for £10m for Acerbi with Fiorentina and Inter Milan also interested in the experienced defender.

Watford might swoop with manager Walter Mazzarri keen to add some fellow Italians to his squad.

Leicester are looking for a new centre back after struggling with depth in that area this season.
