Left-back Antonee Robinson looks set to leave Everton to join Wigan Athletic, according to The Liverpool Echo.
The 21-year-old would have a very tough task ahead of him if he wanted to get first-team football with Everton, due to the fact he has Lucas Digne and Leighton Baines as direct competition, while potential new signing Fabian Delph can also operate in that berth.
Therefore, it seems as though the club and player will be cutting ties.
Robinson has been excellent at youth level, winning the Premier League 2 with the Toffees. Indeed, a talent Wigan will know they can rely on should he join, as he was an everpresent in their starting line up while on loan last season, aside from when he had an injury.
He has also represented the USMNT seven times and has two assists, with one of those games being a 1-1 friendly draw with France, of which the Everton man played 82 minutes.
Robinson didn’t make it into their Gold Cup squad though, which indicates that if he wants to get back into the side and continue progressing, he will need to be getting regular first-team football – something that won’t happen at Everton anytime soon considering the competition of Digne and Baines.
The reported fee for the move is £2 million, and this would surely be a good deal for everybody involved.
Everton get some more funds which can be put towards further signings, Wigan secure a player they know they can rely on for a reasonable price and Robinson gets the regular minutes he needs to progress his career.
