Everton: Danny Mills tips club to lose Bernard in January

Danny Mills has told Football Insider that he has tipped Everton to lose Bernard in the January transfer window.

Speaking to the news outlet, the former Leeds United and Manchester City defender has suggested that a move away from the Goodison Park faithful for the Brazil international next month would be a good idea for all parties involved:

“If the player wants to go and he’s not really involved, he’s on the periphery then it’s always a good idea to move players on.

“There’s always a balance of keeping players around and not being dictated to by the players.

“But you never want an unhappy camp in those instances.”

Losing Bernard may not be a wise idea

It may not be a wise idea for the Merseyside club to lose Bernard unless they can bring in a suitable replacement for him.

The 28-year-old can still be ‘quality’ on his day and has ‘fabulous ability’ on the ball like what he demonstrated versus Manchester United in the Premier League earlier on in the 2020/21 term.

He has shown that he still has an eye for a goal and an assist in this season, scoring twice and making one assist in his eight games in all competitions, in which he has only played the full 90 minutes no more than three times (Transfermarkt).

Despite his lack of matches, the winger is still a handy squad player to have for Carlo Ancelotti’s team, and so letting him go in January may not be the best idea by the Toffees unless they have a replacement lined up.
