Everton Exclusive: Chris Kirkland sends constructive criticism to Jordan Pickford

Chris Kirkland has delivered some advice to fellow goalkeeper Jordan Pickford while the Everton star is on international duty with England.

Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, the former Liverpool goalkeeper said that the Everton star needs to ‘knuckle down and keep his mouth shut’ and ‘come off social media’, following the heavy criticism he has faced since his challenge on Virgil van Dijk.

Kirkland also urged Pickford to ‘train harder’ and ‘calm down on the pitch’, suggesting that the 26 year-old needs to focus on his goalkeeping rather than antics he has often enjoyed in the past.

Pickford has become error-prone

Indeed, the challenge on Van Dijk was one of quite a few mistakes, and he is starting to build an unhealthy habit of them, having made no fewer than four errors that led directly to goals in the 2019/20 season in the Premier League (Sofascore).

Pickford needs to showcase his talent more

Indeed, Pickford did not establish himself as Everton’s or England’s number one goalkeeper for nothing.

With a run of games, he has shown before that he can be ‘immense’, exemplified by the some of the plaudits he received courtesy of his very impressive displays in the 2018 FIFA World Cup for the Three Lions under Gareth Southgate.

Nonetheless, Kirkland has called for him to brush up his ideas ahead of his return to Goodison Park after the international break, hoping his fellow member of the goalkeeping union can focus his efforts on cutting out silly mistakes.
