Everton fans cannot agree on the comments made by pundit Chris Sutton that Jordan Pickford should be expecting competition for his place in the England team.
The 25-year-old was found to be at fault for Brighton’s opening goal during their 3-2 defeat down on the south coast on Saturday, after making a hatful of errors last season, most notably against Tottenham during his side’s 6-2 defeat.
The best moments of his career were during the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where his efforts helped guide England to the World Cup semi-finals. However, he has been unable to replicate his international form onto the domestic stage and is feeling the heat from the supporters.
Chris Sutton: “I think Pickford is under pressure not necessarily for his Everton place but for his England spot. I think there are other goalkeepers out there, the boy at Bournemouth Aaron Ramsdale, very competent goalkeeper. Pickford has got work to do and a lot to prove.” #EFC pic.twitter.com/bpKcuGDXmA

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Sutton believes England’s No. 1 needs to pick up his game otherwise he could lose his place in the team.
“I think Pickford is under pressure, not necessarily for his Everton place, but for his England spot,” he said.
“I think there are other goalkeepers out there, the boy at Bournemouth Aaron Ramsdale, very competent goalkeeper. Pickford I think has got work to do and a lot to prove this season.”
Fans could not agree with each other on Sutton’s comments and made their feelings clear on social media.

Pickfords form is put at the moment. Needs to improve quickly. Not arsed who said it, it’s true

Bore off, no other English keeper comes close. Wish they did to keep him on his toes.
