Back in the summer of 2019, Everton completed the signing of Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi in a deal worth up to £34 million – with supporters nearly six months later taking to social media and hammering the business which brought him to Goodison Park.
Replying to a thread on Twitter asking supporters if the Toffees’ director of football Marcel Brands has done a good job during his tenure so far, listing all of their club’s acquisitions whilst under his charge, fans pin-pointed one signing that particularly rubs them the wrong way in the shape of the Nigerian winger.
Iwobi, who has started 11 games for Everton this season, has been out of action since December with a hamstring injury (Transfermarkt). When he was playing, the 23-year-old did little to impress over fellow attacking midfielder Bernard – with the Brazilian amassing more dribbles and key passes per game whilst also notching a superior number of goals and assists in the Premier League, as per WhoScored.com.
As a result, fans have lamented the relatively large fee which brought him to Merseyside – find all of their best comments down below.
Worst player since McFadden.

Iwobi is awful business. Arsenal couldn’t get him out of the door quick enough for that. Paid £20 million more for him than we should.

We overpaid for Iwobi. I’d say Richarlison, Mina, Digne, Gomes, Bernard, Gbamin, Kean, Sidibe and Lössl were success but Iwobi and Delph no
