A selection of Everton supporters have been discussing if Marco Silva should be looking to slot Tom Davies into the starting eleven.
The Blues product is currently waiting for his first start of the season, having been an unused substitute in his side’s 1-0 victory over Watford and again in their 2-0 defeat at Aston Villa on Friday night.
Silva opted for a midfield unit consisting of Morgan Schneiderlin and Andre Gomes in behind Gylfi Sigurdsson for the Goodison Park natives’ trip to Birmingham, but failed to secure a desirable result thanks to goals by Wesley Moraes and Anwar El Ghazi.
The Portuguese head coach is also now without summer signing Jean-Philippe Gbamin, as the £25million arrival from FSV Mainz 05 suffered a ‘significant’ injury in training last week, and faces a possible twelve weeks on the sidelines (BBC).
Fabian Delph is due to return immediately after a groin problem, meanwhile, which Silva hopes will allow Everton to change formation away from his favoured 4-2-3-1 to a 4-3-3.
He told the Liverpool Echo after losing to Aston Villa: “It will be a possibility, no doubts about that, and Fabian – not just because of this – he is a left-footed player, but this is important for me because last season we didn’t have a left-footed midfielder.”
Should Delph make his competitive Everton debut against either of Lincoln City in the League Cup on Wednesday or Wolves on Sunday, it could leave Davies on the bench for the fourth – or fifth – game running.
Some Blues supporters would like to see the £13.5m-rated (via Transfermarkt) midfielder earn a more prominent role in their club’s upcoming fixtures, though, and have been discussing where the 21-year-old can fit into Silva’s plans on social media.

At least he can slot a ball into the box. Gomes and Schneiderlin seem adverse to that.
