Everton fans have been reacting to the news that Marco Silva was sacked as manager, with many feeling sorry for him.
The club’s official website announced that club legend Duncan Ferguson would take charge of the Toffees’ Premier League encounter with Chelsea on Saturday.
Injuries had stacked up against the Portuguese manager, with the likes of Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Andre Gomes out for the long term, leaving him with limited personnel in midfield. Individual errors and VAR decisions have also been going against his side.
As results got progressively worse and with the Blues slipping into the relegation zone, it was more a matter of when and not if after their 5-2 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday.
Silva left the club after just 18 months in charge and accumulated an average of 1.41 points per game from 61 matches at the helm of Goodison Park.
Supporters were sympathetic towards their former manager and made their feelings clear following his dismissal. Some believe he was unlucky, while others say that he was poorly treated.

Feel so sorry for Marco Silva. He was so unlucky at Everton and I’m really not sure where we go from here #EFC

I feel this is a sad day. Silva was a proper gent and really respected #EFC for who we are. Really wanted him to do well from day one but unfortunately it didn’t work out, such a shame as the club let him hung out to dry.

Feel sorry for Marco Silva for just how horrendously this situation has been handled. #efc

I feel for Marco Silva:
– inherited over-inflated squad
– had to move on/bring in several new players
– lost Gueye, replacement injured all season
– lost Zouma, not replaced
– awful injury luck
– pitiful VAR calls
Deserved more time, instead we rip it up and start AGAIN. #EFC— Paul Traill (@PaulTraill) December 5, 2019
I feel for Marco Silva. He tried to do a job when the whole of football knew he wasn’t up to it. Looking back the win at Southampton kept him there until now. Next appointment is massive. If it is David Moyes then I want nothing to do with the football club. #EFC

I do feel sorry for Marco Silva.
However he should not have been given the job in the first place after Watford sacked him and Hull City relegated.
I think the board appointed him out of courtesy.
Must get this next appointment right. #silva #everton #efc— Triumphatism (@Triumphatism) December 5, 2019
Feel for Silva out of his depth but fall guy for the clubs failings again, failings that have been festering for the last 20 years. Very unlucky with injuries and VAR going against him. The players need to take a look at themselves and ask do they want to play for us #Silva #efc
