Although Everton only managed to take a point against Arsenal in Saturday’s early kick-off, many of the Merseyside faithful were left pleased with what they saw from Djibril Sidibe.
Whilst Carlo Ancelotti may feel he has his work cut out for him at Goodison Park after being confirmed the new manager ahead of the game, supporters felt the 27-year-old was one of the bright sparks on the field.
Indeed, the match appeared to offer very little excitement in terms of goal-mouth action, especially for those in Blue as they failed to hit the target once with their nine attempts (per WhoScored), the French defender appeared to offer some encouraging signs.
According to the data collected, Sidibe managed to complete four dribbles, make three tackles, five interceptions and one clearance – handing him a match rating of 7.77 and being considered the best Everton player on the day by the scoring system.
As mentioned, fans appeared to be pleased with what they saw from the full-back, with some taking to Twitter to share their praise.
Here are just some of their reactions…
On another note:
Pickford was great today, made some boss reaction saves
Sidibe’s defensive work is class imo
DCL is just so good in the air
Mina
Davies handled the big ask of right wing semi-decently, definitely not an option though.

No problem fella. Just know for next time.
He really wasnt. Only players that come out of that with any credit, sidibe, mina, holgate and Dcl if I’m feeling generous.— Dayne Murphy (@EFCDayne) December 21, 2019
Dreadful spectacle at GP. #EFC out of gas after their exertions with such a limited amount of players fit over the last 2 weeks. Holgate & Sidibe impressive.
Never thought I’d see an #Arsenal side come to Goodison to defend for a point from minute 1. A sad state of affairs. #COYB— Mike Peters (@djmikepeters) December 21, 2019
Sidibe my motm today think he made every tackle successful and was just overall good today

Considering Ancelotti was in the stands only sidibe and mina showed him they’ve got something about them. Rest were really really bad today.

Thought Sidibe was superb today, never stopped running all day, defensively solid, he’s really come on leaps and bounds. Here he is giving his shirt to a lucky kid in the Gwladys at the end. #Everton #EFC #COYB pic.twitter.com/Zc50EQc0OF

OK, his passing at times today wasn’t great, but Sidibe was my man of the match there. Keep forgetting we’ve not actually signed him yet maybe Ancelotti appointment will sort that out
