Loads of Everton supporters have been responding to a post shared by the Goodison Park club on social media, after Bernard, Lucas Digne, Alex Iwobi and Richarlison were nominated for the Blues’ Goal of the Month award for August.
August saw Marco Silva’s side play four competitive fixtures across all competitions, in which they scored five goals (WhoScored), helped by hitting four past League One side Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup.
Only Bernard hit a successful strike for the Toffees in the Premier League during the month of August, before the Merseyside outfit enjoyed a more prolific day in front of goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers when they scored three on September 1st through Iwobi and a brace from Richarlison.
Fans have been lauding the efforts of one Everton goalscorer more than any other so far, with supporters hailing Digne’s strike against the Imps, which pulled Silva’s side level in the 36th minute of the cup clash.
The Frenchman’s hit was inch-perfect as he curled his free-kick around the Lincoln City wall tasked with protecting the right-hand side of Grant Smith’s net, and the ball crashed into the top corner of the goal.
Iwobi’s nomination also came from the Carabao Cup tie after he later bagged his first goal in Royal Blue (TransferMarkt), as he flicked his header into the far corner of the net to secure the Toffees’ progression into the third round of the tournament, where they will meet Sheffield Wednesday.
Richarlison, likewise, saw his effort recorded against the Imps nominated, after the Brazilian nodded home the Toffees’ fourth of the night after drifting between the Imps defenders and into the centre of the box unmarked as they tried to contain Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, following a perfectly weighted cross from Digne after the French left-back broke free of Harry Anderson.
Meanwhile, Bernard’s effort against Watford was selected as he cut inside onto his right foot and drilled the ball between the legs of an out-stretched Kiko Femenia and into the bottom corner of Ben Foster’s goal.
