Everton: Fans react as James Rodriguez linked with transfer

Many Everton fans have reacted to a tweet from Transfermarkt expert Nicolo Schira, who claims Carlo Ancelotti’s first choice signing this summer is Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez.

The Toffees boss is expected to bring in a whole host of new faces to Goodison Park in what will be his first summer transfer window in charge of the Merseyside club.

Plenty of names have been linked with a move to the club over recent weeks and Colombian midfielder Rodriguez has been at the top of that list.

Rodriguez moved to Madrid in 2014 after a superb World Cup campaign with his national side, moving from Ligue 1 side Monaco in a deal worth £67.5m.

Despite a good debut season at the Santiago Bernabeu, the 28-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements between 2017 and last summer, spending two years on loan with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

With Madrid expected to sell off a number of high profile players this summer, Everton are seemingly in pole position to make a move, and Schira has now claimed that the former FC Porto man is now the ‘number one target’ for boss Ancelotti.

Reacting to Schira’s tweet, fans have given a varied response:

No chance. This will not happen. Personally think the days of Everton signing over paid, ageing, on the way down players are over. Richarlison, Kean, Digne, Iwobi, Bernard, Mina, Zouma. We are going after players of a certain age with scope to improve
