Everton: Fans react as Silva confirms Andre Gomes injury

A selection of Everton supporters have been reacting on social media after Marco Silva confirmed that Andre Gomes missed the Blues’ trip to AFC Bournemouth on Sunday through a rib injury.

The Portuguese midfielder sustained the blow at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Toffees’ final Premier League game before the recent international break (Liverpool Echo), and failed a subsequent fitness test in his bid to face Eddie Howe’s Cherries at the Vitality Stadium.

Silva had waited as long as he could to see if Gomes would be fit to play on the south coast on Sunday, but was forced to name Morgan Schneiderlin alongside Fabian Delph instead.

“He felt something after the Wolves match,” Silva said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo. “He tried to work during the week, but in the last [few] days he felt it again. He will miss the game today.

“It’s the ribs. It’s something we will have to see day-by-day how he recovers from that situation. What we want to do is get him ready as fast as we can.”

Gomes had started each of Everton’s previous four Premier League games after his loan move from FC Barcelona was turned permanent in the summer for £22million (BBC), in which he played four key passes, recorded six successful tackles and six successful dribbles, per data collected by WhoScored.

Neither Delph nor Schneiderlin were able to record a successful dribble against Bournemouth on Sunday as Everton lost 3-1 at the Vitality Stadium, with Schneiderlin also failing to gain possession with three of his seven attempted tackles – the worst tackle success rate of any Blues player who attempted at least one tackle.

Toffees supporters have now been sharing their hope in seeing Gomes back in action as soon as possible, with Everton hosting Sheffield United in their next Premier League encounter next Saturday.
