A selection of Everton supporters took to social media on Tuesday night to share their reactions to Marco Silva calling on Theo Walcott to replace Richarlison against Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup.
Richarlison had started the EFL Cup clash on the right-hand side of Silva’s four-man strong offence at Hillsborough, but struggled to leave his mark on proceedings as a Dominic Calvert-Lewin brace secured the win for the visitors.
Before his departure, Richarlison had completed his only attempted dribble and recorded a key pass, per WhoScored data, but also saw neither of his two shots on Cameron Dawson’s goal test the Owls shot-stopper.
The 22-year-old Brazilian winger was dispossessed once, as well, while misplacing 36% of his 14 attempted passes.
Walcott, likewise, had little influence on the game after entering the action in the 67th minute, with the former Arsenal forward finding a teammate with four of his six attempted passes, along with no shots, tackles, or successful aerial duels.
London-born Walcott’s outing against Sheffield Wednesday was the 30-year-old’s sixth appearance of the season across all competitions (TransferMarkt), with each outing to date coming from the bench and lasting no longer than 27 minutes – achieved in his term debut against Watford.
Former England international Walcott is yet to score or assist a goal this season, either, having only contributed eight last term (six scored, two assisted).
