In Friday’s pre-match press conference, Everton manager Marco Silva told the media that Gylfi Sigurdsson and Andre Gomes are available for Saturday’s clash against Cardiff City.
Playmaker Sigurdsson missed out on the international break with Iceland following a challenge from Jorginho in the game against Chelsea, leaving him with an ankle injury and thus having to miss his country’s UEFA Nations League defeat to Belgium, as well as their friendly draw with Qatar.
Fellow midfielder Gomes joined up with his native Portugal, yet he was sent home after it was decided he was not up to the standard of fitness because of bruising.
29-year-old Sigurdsson has been a mainstay in the Everton team this season, scoring five times and assisting twice, as he finally goes some way to justifying his hefty price-tag from last summer, while Gomes had only returned from an injury to play four times for the Toffees before the break, starting all of the games as he slowly but surely begins to solidify his place in Silva’s team.
