Many Everton fans stuck up for goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for his performance during his side’s 3-2 defeat against Arsenal on Sunday.
The Toffees had the lead inside the first 49 seconds but were unable to take any points away from the Emirates. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison scored before half-time, but a brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and a goal from Eddie Nketiah gave the hosts the three points, leaving Carlo Ancelotti’s side scratching their heads wondering how they failed to take anything from the game. With this in mind, some fans focused on one man who has come under major scrutiny during the current campaign. Carlo Ancelotti recently backed Pickford as having the right personality to get past criticism, and there has certainly been plenty of it.
Despite only making one save during the 90 minutes (according to Sofascore), the 25-year-old shot-stopper was defended by the Gwladys Street faithful due to their team’s poor defensive shape, which they concluded was the ultimate reason why they lost the game. After receiving waves of criticism, a few Everton supporters defended him on social media. One fan said that he has been an “unfair scapegoat”, while another stated that there is an unnecessary agenda against him.

Can’t blame him for the goals that went in; but, he gave one away and got bailed out by the crossbar.

Had no chance with the goals. Defence was all over the place

I’d like to have seen him attack the cross on the opener and that passing late match was… interesting. Beyond that, hes not on the hook for this mess.
