Everyone loves a local lad don’t they? Be it Harry Kane at Spurs, Steven Gerrard at Liverpool or Alan Shearer at Newcastle, he fans cannot hate one of their own. The Toffees are no different, and the love they have for Wayne Rooney is clear to see and with the Evertonian keeping tabs on his former club, they’d love to make another return.

Derby days are special no matter who you support, yet on Merseyside things are different. Whenever Everton and Liverpool come together at Anfield or Goodison it’s an occasion and having featured in seven Merseyside derbies Rooney knows what it’s all about. The DC United ace grew up watching the fixture as a schoolboy and now the fans would love to see him return to the club one last time.
At 33-years-old the chances are that Rooney wouldn’t be much use to Marco Silva as a player, but the dream is still alive of the 120-cap ex-England captain returning to Goodison Park as a coach once he hangs up his boots. There won’t be many, if any, Toffees that don’t want to see that and whilst Rooney’s shone in DC as the MLS side’s club captain, his heart remains firmly at Goodison Park.
