Many Everton fans have been left to fume at a transfer revelation as the Liverpool Echo have reported that they had a chance to sign Erling Haaland.
As per the news outlet, Ian Atkins, who was the Head of European Recruitment at the Goodison Park faithful between 2012 and 2016, revealed that before Haaland’s move to Molde, the Academy at the Merseyside club decided that he ‘wasn’t good enough’ adding that the Borussia Dortmund star was ‘one that got away’.
Should Everton have signed Haaland?
It is certainly a case of what could have been as the 20-year-old is now one of the best young players in the world, scoring no fewer than 27 goals and making a further seven assists in just 25 games in total over all competitions so far in the 2020/21 term (Transfermarkt).
Everton fan reaction to Haaland revelation
These Toffees supporters fumed upon learning about the revelation on Haaland on Twitter, with one Blues fan even going as far as to say that it was a ‘massive mistake’ that they did not sign the prolific striker:
“Who made the decision and are they still there?”
“It’s all about opinions in football … massive mistake again though”
