Everton: Fans have mixed thoughts over late capture of Robin Olsen - Everton News

A number of Everton supporters have been reacting to the Toffees confirming the arrival of goalkeeper Robin Olsen from AS Roma on a season-long loan deal.

Everton have enjoyed a very promising start to the campaign, with the Toffees sitting on top of the Premier League table having won all four of their opening league fixtures. However, there have been question marks over the form of Jordan Pickford after the England number one endured a poor campaign last year, conceding an average of 1.5 goals per match, as per Sofascore.

The Toffees were in the market for a new keeper throughout the window and they were heavily linked with a late deadline day move for Manchester United’s Sergio Romero, but having been unable to secure a move for the Argentine stopper, they turned their attentions to bringing in Olsen from Roma.

What year did Moyes first take charge at Everton?

Olsen endured a challenging first season at Roma after he joined the Italian side from F.C. Copenhagen in 2018, with the keeper conceding an average of 1.6 goals per game in his 27 Serie A appearances in 2018/19 (via Sofascore).

The 30-year-old, though, did re-find some form during a loan spell with Cagliari last season, where he averaged 4 saves per game and also helped his side record four clean sheets in his 17 appearances, as per Sofascore.

Some fans were keen to point out that Pickford needed someone challenging him to improve his form, while others are hoping he can prove them wrong and justify Carlo Ancelotti’s faith.
