Everton: Fans react to VAR decision on Jordan Pickford’s challenge on Virgil van Dijk

Loads of Everton fans have been reacting to a decision made by VAR in the Merseyside derby involving Jordan Pickford.

According to The Athletic, VAR checked the challenge made by Pickford on Virgil van Dijk which forced the Liverpool defender to go off with an injury, but did not deem it worthy of a red card.

It was a subjective decision made by David Coote and while Van Dijk was deemed offside by the on-pitch officials, ruling out the possibility of a penalty kick, Pickford could have still been sent off for serious foul play, despite the ball not technically being in play.

Whether it was a red card offence or not is up for debate, but it did not stop several members of the Goodison Park faithful slamming Pickford for the challenge.

At this point in the game it was already 1-0 to Jurgen Klopp’s team thanks to a very early goal from Sadio Mane from an Andy Robertson cross, and so a red card given to the England international may well have changed the entire course of the match, with the game finishing 2-2 in the end.
