Some Everton fans have been left slamming the display of Mason Holgate despite their 2-1 away win over Wolves at Molineux in the Premier League.
The Goodison Park faithful moved up to fourth spot in the top flight table thanks to goals from Alex Iwobi and Michael Keane either side of Ruben Neves equalising for the hosts.
Should Everton start Holgate in midfield?
Although there were some good performances for the Merseyside club in the win, Holgate flattered to deceive some Toffees with his own.
The England U21 international lost out on 75% of his duels in the game, and also failed to record a single clearance, key pass, accurate cross or long ball (Sofascore). Of course, for a combative player who is in the side to stop opposition attacks, losing three out of every four battles he engaged in is a worrisome statistic.
The 24 year-old also lost possession of the ball no fewer than nine times in the match, and managed to get himself booked in the 69th minute, earning him a very measly 6.2 overall rating on Sofascore, the lowest out of any of his teammates to have set foot on the field of play.
Everton fan reaction to Holgate display
These EFC supporters slammed his performance on Twitter, with one Blue even going as far to say that he was ‘abhorrent’ in the clash against Nuno Espirito Santo’s men:
“Is Holgate even playing? #WOLEVE”
“I thought Holgate’s distribution was poor today”
“I’d normally agree but Holgate has been abhorrent tonight”
“Amazing how he is always the whipping boy. Holgate, Davies both 10 times worse”
“Offers nothing going forward Holgate, his passing is awful”
“Both Davies and Holgate have been abysmal tonight.”
