Gabby Agbonlahor has slammed Allan by claiming to Football Insider that teams have found the Everton star out.
Speaking to the news outlet, the former Aston Villa striker claimed that while Allan was good at the start of the 2020/21 term, he does not think that the Brazil international has been as good in the last three or four games:
“He’s been good. I think with Allan he’s had a really good start to the season but the last three or four games he hasn’t been as good as I thought he was at the start.
“Teams have found him out. He hasn’t had the legs in the middle to get the ball back. I’ve seen a lot of attacking players run off Allan.
“Maybe we all got a bit too excited in his first few games and now teams have found him out.
“He’s not been anywhere near the likes of Douglas Luiz, Fabinho, Thomas Partey in that position.
“For me, the jury is still out.”
Everton have been poor lately
Indeed, Everton have had a very poor run of results lately with Allan in the team. The Goodison Park faithful have lost their last three games in the Premier League with Allan in the side versus Southampton, Newcastle United and Manchester United respectively, while also only managing a draw in the Merseyside derby against Liverpool four matches ago.
Is Allan the best signing Everton made this season?
To suggest this is the fault of the 29 year-old is a bit harsh, but as Agbonlahor has claimed, perhaps he is starting to get found out by teams in the top flight.
Allan has still been good overall for Everton
Nonetheless, Allan has still been a good buy by Everton overall. The defensive midfield player has won no fewer than 7.4 of his duels per appearance in England’s highest division so far this season, and has also averaged a quite impressive 4.6 tackles, 1.3 successful dribbles and one interception a game (Sofascore).
As Agbonlahor says, the jury is still out on Allan given that he has not been at the Merseyside club for long, but with it still being early doors in this campaign, the centre midfielder can only surely get better from here on in.
