Noel Whelan has claimed to Football Insider that Everton need more pace and that Manchester United star Dan James would fit the bill.
Indeed, the Goodison Park faithful have been linked with a swoop for the Wales international in the January transfer window, and the former Leeds United striker believes that he could give the Merseyside club something that Carlo Ancelotti perhaps needs more of in his current squad:
“I think they need to look for more pace, more quality in those wide areas and Dan James, you can see he’s got that.
“He’s not a regular in the Man United side but he’s never out of the squad. We saw in midweek, what a great striker he can be, and winger, with that goal that he took and scored – that’s exceptional quality from the young man.”
Ryan Giggs is a big admirer of James
Indeed, one huge admirer of James is the former Premier League legend now Welsh national team coach Ryan Giggs, who described the rapid winger as ‘excellent’ and even likened him to a younger version of world superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
Would James be a good signing for Everton?
James could certainly add some pace and trickery out on the wing for the Toffees, and with him seemingly being out of favour for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team at this moment in time, a loan deal for him may well be possible in January, which provides a pretty low-risk option given that he can return to Old Trafford at the end of it.
James could be an upgrade for Everton
Between them, fellow wingers Bernard, Alex Iwobi and Anthony Gordon have only scored a mere three goals between them so far in the 2020/21 term, and so James may be able to improve on those stats given his added ability to run in behind defenders with his pace.
