Everton: Injury expert drops Demarai Gray team news claim

Everton: Injury expert drops Demarai Gray team news claim -Everton News

An injury expert has now dropped some ‘big’ Everton team news before they play Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

The Lowdown: Instagram hint

Taking to Instagram (via EFC Daily) earlier this week, Demarai Gray dropped a subtle hint that he could return to the team at Goodison Park by captioning a recent photo of him with his team-mates on the pitch with an hourglass emoji.

As quoted by The Liverpool Echo, Frank Lampard admitted last week that he was ‘hopeful’ that the winger would be available for the visit of the Premier League champions, and the Everton boss may well get his wish.

The Latest: Gray set to return for Everton v Man City

Speaking to Football Insider, injury expert Ben Dinnery – who runs the Premier Injuries website and has a background in both medicine and data analysis – has now claimed that Gray should be in the matchday squad for Saturday’s game.

Dinnery explained: “He just missed out at Southampton.

“It’s not a new injury. It’s his hip flexor, so a groin-related problem. He’s had problems with it previously and recovered fairly quickly.

“Given the quick turnaround last time out, it probably would have been a stretch to include Demarai Gray.

“But provided there is no reaction in training, I would fully expect him to be in the matchday squad against Man City this weekend.

“That’s going to be big for Everton. We know it’s going to be a really, really tough game and they need as many players fit as possible.”

The Verdict: Huge boost for Everton

It will certainly be huge for Everton’s chances of getting a result if Gray is fit enough to make the squad against Pep Guardiola’s side.

The former Leicester and Bayer Leverkusen ace is currently the Toffees’ top scorer in the league with five goals so far this term, while he also has two assists and ranks highly among his team-mates in terms of average shots, key passes and dribbles per game in the division (WhoScored).

City are a wounded animal after their 3-2 loss at home to Tottenham Hotspur last time out, so getting anything from them will be doubly hard for Lampard do. However, if they can deny the champions three points, Gray is likely to have a big say in doing so.
