Arkadiusz Milik aspired to move to Everton but Carlo Ancelotti disapproved of the Merseyside club making a transfer move for the Napoli ace, according to Ciro Venerato.
Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli (via Tutto Napoli), the Italian football journalist and transfer guru claimed:
“I think he aspired to Everton, PSG or Atletico Madrid. Everton, however, wanted a counter attacker and not one with the characteristics of Milik. Ancelotti had communicated this to a member of the Polish entourage.”
Milik would have offered a goal threat
Indeed, Milik would have possibly offered another good option to the Toffees based on his record in front of goal so far in his career.
The Poland international has scored 14 goals in 51 senior games for his country and has also managed to find the back of the net no fewer than 114 times in 272 matches in all competitions playing for Napoli as well as the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and Ajax, as per Transfermarkt.
Competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison
Milik could have provided some healthy competition to the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison at Everton.
Comparing the stats of the 26-year old to the two Toffees strikers in their respective domestic leagues in 2019/20, Milik averaged more shots (2.6) and achieved a higher pass success percentage (82.3%) per match (per Whoscored).
Does Milik start for Everton?
With Moise Kean going out on loan to PSG in for the rest of the season, perhaps the Poland centre-forward should have been brought in as cover in case one of the other two gets injured or suspended for a prolonged period of time.
Everton should try and buy Milik in January
Everton should look to buy Milik in the January transfer window given his proven pedigree in front of goal and the potential to keep both Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison on their toes.
Currently valued at £28.8m by Transfermarkt, the Toffes should look to sign him for a reasonable fee.
