Everton are one of the clubs looking at Wolfsburg midfielder Aster Vranckx, according to Calciomercato.

The lowdown

The 19-year-old only joined Wolfsburg from Belgian outfit KV Mechelen last summer in a £7.2m deal.

While predominantly a central midfielder, he has also been used in more defensive and attacking roles in the middle third of the pitch.

Now valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, the teenager has made 11 Bundesliga starts for the mid-table outfit and is currently enjoying a streak of four starts in succession.

The latest

The report from Calciomercato stated that Everton recruitment staff have 'set their sights' on Vranckx ahead of the summer transfer window.

It also noted that he has previously attracted interest from Serie A giants AC Milan.

The verdict

When assessing Vranckx's numbers, a few attributes stand out. First and foremost, he completes a relatively high volume of dribbles, ranking in the 93rd percentile among positional peers in the top five leagues (via FBRef).

Also, Everton fans will surely be glad to hear that he seems to boast an exceptional work rate, slotting into the 91st percentile for pressures and blocks per 90 minutes.

Vranckx went viral during his time in Belgium for all the wrong reasons, with a clip of him inexplicably missing an open goal against KV Oostende attracting 6.3 million views.

Beyond that blooper, though, he is part of a 'very exciting' crop of young midfield talents emerging for his country, in the words of talent scout Jacek Kulig, and he could be worth keeping an eye on for Toffees fans.
