Fabrizio Romano has dropped an Everton transfer update on their pursuit of Joshua Zirkzee.
As per a tweet from the Italian football journalist and transfer guru, the Goodison Park faithful as well as Parma are still working to sign the Netherlands U21 international before the January window closes, with the ‘talks at (a) final stage‘ with the current Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League holders.
Should Everton sign Zirkzee?
The Merseyside club apparently already have a project lined up for him, a different one to Parma, who Romano says are offering Zirkzee the chance to be a regular starter for the Serie A team immediately.
Zirkzee would be a smart signing by Everton
Zirkzee would be a smart signing by Carlo Ancelotti’s side, even if it was only on a loan deal until the end of the 2020/21 term.
Despite being just 19 years of age, the striker has already played at the highest level with Bayern, with no fewer than 17 games played in the senior team in all competitions over the last two consecutive seasons, including playing in the Champions League (Transfermarkt).
He would provide some much-needed cover to Dominic Calvert-Lewin up top for the Toffees, in case the England international gets injured again or finds himself out of form in front of goal for a sustained period of time.
Nonetheless, it looks as if it is a two-horse race for his signature, with the picture set to become clearer over the next few days as to whether the Blues can emerge as front-runners to sign him.
