Gaetano Castrovilli has told Gazzetta dello Sport that he intends to stay at Fiorentina, which is a significant blow to Everton’s hopes of signing him.
Indeed, the Goodison Park outfit were linked with a move for the Italy international in the summer transfer window as Carlo Ancelotti reportedly wanted to bring him to the Merseyside club, but a deal never materialised in the end.
Where will Everton finish in the Premier League?

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Castrovilli said:
“My dream is to play in Europe with Fiorentina. It’s nice that the top clubs have shown appreciation but I only think of the Viola.
“Can I renew (my contract) until 2025? I’d like to. I’m fine in Florence, Fiorentina is like a family for me, so if the opportunity arises, I would certainly be happy (to sign a new deal).”
Castrovilli could have been a good signing for Everton
Indeed, Castrovilli may have turned out to be a good signing for the Toffees. The 23-year old has won no fewer than five of his duels per game in Serie A so far this season, as well as averaging two interceptions and 1.4 tackles per match (Sofascore).
Currently valued at £22.5m, it may have proven a bargain for the Blues to sign Castrovilli in the summer, as he could grow to be an even better player and thus his price tag may rise come the start of the January transfer window, which is when Everton could next attain his services.
Do Everton really need Castrovilli?
On the other hand, it is debatable whether Everton actually need Castrovilli, given that they already signed midfielders Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure from Napoli and Watford respectively over the summer.
Nonetheless, he could have turned out to be a good signing, but all hopes of his signature now seem forlorn as he appears to have committed his long-term future to Fiorentina instead.
