Memphis Depay has cast doubts over his future at Lyon, which may pave the way for Everton to sign him in the January transfer window.
“I’m not going to make promises I’m not sure I can keep.”
Indeed, the Goodison Park faithful were linked with a move for Depay back in June, and may well rekindle their interest in January given his latest comments.
Depay would be a great signing
Depay would be a great signing for the Merseyside club as he is more than capable of stepping in if the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin or Richarlison are injured or misfiring in front of goal.
Should Everton sign Depay?
The 26 year-old has already scored five goals and made a further three assists in ten games in Ligue 1 so far in the 2020/21 term (Transfermarkt), showing that he has an eye for both a goal and an assist.
Depay offers other qualities
Indeed, Depay offers other qualities too, as he can use his ‘incredible pace’ to get in behind teams and cause defenders in the Premier League real havoc when running at them.
He has won no fewer than 4.6 of his duels per game in the French top flight so far this season, and has also averaged 2.8 key passes, 2.5 shots and 2.5 successful dribbles a match (Sofascore).
Depay is also very versatile, having played in three different positions so far in this campaign.
How much would Depay cost?
Transfermarkt currently value him at a sizeable £40.5m, and so it is very likely that the former Manchester United player will not come cheap.
Nonetheless, with the right bid, Carlo Ancelotti’s side could well make their move for the Dutchman in January.
