Tiago Pinto has been appointed as the new sporting director of AS Roma in what is a big boost to Everton’s hopes of keeping Marcel Brands.
As confirmed by the official website of the Serie A club, an agreement has been reached with the current director of football for SL Benfica, a role that he has taken for three years, to join them as their General Manager of Football as soon as the New Year comes on the 1st January 2021, as he will report to Dan and Ryan Friedkin and oversee all of the Italian club’s sporting components.
Should Brands sign a new deal at Everton?
Indeed, Brands had been linked with the position over the last week when it was vacant, but now that Pinto has been appointed, it means that the Goodison Park faithful have received a rather huge boost in their hopes of keeping him at the Merseyside club.
However, contract talks between Brands and the Toffees have been delayed until January, with his current deal at the Blues set to run out in the summer of 2021.
‘Brilliant’ Brands needs to stay at Everton
Indeed, Brands needs to be given a new contract by EFC as soon as possible, as he has been ‘brilliant’ for them in terms of Everton’s recruitment over the summer.
He would have been heavily involved in the summer spending at Everton, with the likes of Abdoulaye Doucoure, Allan and Ben Godfrey coming through the door for fairly sizeable transfer fees.
The Dutchman also has ‘a beautiful relationship’ with Carlo Ancelotti, and so the Toffees should seriously consider keeping him for the long-term in order to continue working with the Italian boss.
