Everton interested in Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier

Everton have a bit of a problem at right-back, don’t they? Seamus Coleman is getting old and has looked a shadow of himself with his performances recently, whilst Jonjoe Kenny has not looked too convincing when he has been utilised there either.

Marco Silva must look to address it in the summer and it appears an experienced international defender could be on their wishlist this summer, that could immediately upgrade the options they have available to them.

What’s the News?

The Sun are running with an exclusive story saying that Everton are interested in Tottenham Hotspur’s Kieran Trippier this summer.

It is claimed Mauricio Pochettino is prepared to offload the England international, with the Toffees renewing their interest in the 28-year-old who is valued at £20million.

The Verdict:

Trippier could be an excellent addition at Goodison Park and one that Silva must consider seriously in making, despite the poor form and injuries that have blighted the right-back this season.

He has also made a number of costly mistakes at times in the defence, with his own goal against Chelsea recently standing out as a glaring error, although he has proven over time that he is capable of producing some rather special moments.

On his day, it would be hard to come up with many other better right-backs that England currently have available, whilst Tottenham would currently be pushed to name a better one in their squad at the moment.

As mentioned, the former Burnley man would have to be considered an immediate upgrade on the ageing Coleman, whilst he would also provide the experience that Kenny does not have at the moment.

With the way Silva likes to set his Everton side up, the 28-year-old would be able to slot straight into the system and be able to continue his advancing runs and be able to put in a number of balls into the penalty box for the attackers to try and get on the end of.

In the financial climate of today’s transfer market, £20m is not a lot of money for a club to spend on a player with plenty of experience, and with Everton likely to have the funds available, it should be a move the Goodison Park outfit look to make happen.

Everton fans, do you think Trippier would be a good signing? Do you think he would immediately upgrade the right-back position at Goodison Park? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
