Former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson has praised the immediate effect of Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival at Everton following links between the club and a potential move for James Rodriguez.

According to the Daily Mirror, the new Everton boss is keen to bring Rodriguez to Goodison Park, with the Colombian’s future at Real Madrid uncertain judging by the limited amount of appearances following the return from his loan spell at Bayern Munich and the injuries which have curtailed his season so far.
An Everton switch would see the 28-year-old link up once again with Ancelotti – and Robinson believes the calibre of player that Rodriguez is demonstrates the pulling power that Ancelotti may be able to give Everton in the transfer market.
Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson said: “I think the type of players that are being linked to Everton have put them on another level already with Ancelotti there and able to attract these types of players.
“He’d [Rodriguez] be an absolutely fantastic addition to any football team, and it shows the direction Everton and Ancelotti want to go in.”
It is clear that Ancelotti has been a fan of Rodriguez, with the Italian bringing the World Cup Golden Boot winner to the Santiago Bernabeu from Monaco in 2014 – before signing him on the loan deal which expired in the summer while he was at Bayern Munich.
While it is unclear how concrete links to Rodriguez are, the reports nevertheless suggest how Everton may be able to grow under Ancelotti given his success on the continent throughout his career.
It seems as if Robinson is suggesting that players will now see Goodison Park as a far more attractive destination with the three-time Champions League winner at the helm, and with Rodriguez – twice a winner of the competition himself – being mooted as a potential transfer target, we may be beginning to see the true effect of Ancelotti’s influence on Merseyside.
Perhaps only time will tell on that front, though being in the month of January, it may not be too long before we – and Everton – get some answers.
